Title: Song and Dance
'Verse: 2007 Transformers
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: TF cussing. Fluffs.
The mechs in the rec room shifted in anticipation. They’d been working on this for what seemed like forever, since before any of them had even heard of Earth, and once they’d got to the organic planet, they’d even roped in the humans to lend a hand. And now, after vorns of wheedling and scheming and plotting and finally, outright emotional blackmail with a side of guilt tripping, they had gotten their prize.
Prowl was going to sing.
Prowl was going to sing for Jazz.
The Autobots (and their human accomplices) could not wait.
Outside the room, a chevroned mech eyed the door with some reluctance. Beside him, a larger, black mech grumbled lowly.
“You don’t have to do this, y’know.”
“If I don’t, they will simply double their efforts, causing me no small amount of hassle and inconvenience. It would be more expedient to get this over and done with.”
“Don’t give me that slag, Prowl. I’ve known you since you were a cadet. This isn’t your style of courtship. Any bot interested in you ought to know that.”
“Jazz knows. He offered to be ‘unfindable’ for as long as they keep pressing the matter.”
“But?” The Topkick raised an optic ridge, and doorwings shrugged.
“But… They have a point. I came very close to losing him this time. And I know how much he would appreciate my doing this. And that is the main reason that I’ve capitulated.”
Ironhide vented air irritably, and Prowl patted the weapons master on the arm as the chatter beyond the closed door grew louder. Someone called his name, and the tactician sighed.
“I believe that is my cue. Wish me luck.”
“As the human saying goes, break a leg. One belonging to one of the fraggers who put you up to this. I’d be happy to help with that.”
“Thank you, Ironhide, but that will not be necessary.”
“Hmph.”
= = =
Jazz leant back against the couch, smiling and talking with his friends and fellow Autobots, although he was also growing worried. Prowl didn’t like being shoved into the limelight, but here the SIC was, making a spectacle of himself for the saboteur.
Warm fuzzies warred with a growing desire to just up and call the whole thing off like he’d originally wanted, before Prowl had told him not to.
Primus, he didn’t deserve such a mech.
The door slid open, and to much hooting and catcalling, his mech entered the room, trailed by a glowering Ironhide. The black mech’s glares did not faze Prowl’s audience any, and the tactician took position before the assembled crowd with a calm expression, as if he were just going to carry out a simple briefing. The Solstice caught his lover’s eye, and Prowl smiled briefly at him, sending a reassuring flick of doors his way.
The Ops mech settled, and the music started.
As the first notes played, most of the mechs looked confused when they realised the SIC was smirking at them, and Jazz was laughing. Then, optics focused on the silver mech, Prowl began to sing.
We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
Ironhide’s nonplussed look morphed into a wicked grin when he looked up the lyrics online. Behind Jazz, Bumblebee had collapsed into a staticky fit of snickering, as had Sam and Mikaela (though, being humans and with perfectly functional vocal chords, their laughter was not staticky).
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand
The tactician launched into the chorus, and the rest of the room finally caught on.
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
Amidst the laughter and groans as bots realised what Prowl had done, the SIC closed the distance between himself and the saboteur. Taking the Ops mech’s hand, he continued with the song.
We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it
Jazz’s grip on his hand tightened, the war and the protracted separation had been hard on them both, especially since neither had been willing to risk the other with a sparkbond during such a perilous time.
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see
The chorus came ‘round again, and the Autobots, having gotten over falling for Prowl’s trap, took up the lyrics as tactician and ops mech escaped the room.
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
The pair moved along the deserted corridor (everyone else having assembled in the rec room to watch the spectacle), Jazz softly singing the final repeat of the chorus to the doorwinged mech still holding his hand, visor glowing brightly. Everyone else might think the tactician had chosen this song due to its reputation, just to get the others off his back, but Jazz knew Prowl, and knew the bot would never have so frivolous a reason for doing anything. His mech had meant what he’d sung.
“A full commitment, Prowler? Y’sure?”
“I am. Bond with me, Jazz.”
“Primus, yes.”
And with that, Jazz pulled the SIC close for a kiss.
