I'm rather fond of TFA Sentinel, for some reason, so I usually end up writing him in a more sympathetic light if he plays more than a bit part in fic.
You're right, unlike the G1 bots, the TFA bots have less baggage and less of a dependence on each other to keep the Autobot army running smoothly, allowing them to be more daring about progressing their relationship than the G1 Prowl and Jazz (i.e. They're young and in love, damn the consequences :p).
Even so, I'm guessing that while Prowl might have been ready to go get his Jazz by the time the Elite Guard got back to where they belonged, he did have to work to reach that point. And I'm betting Ratchet, Sari and Optimus had a hand in it too. After all, Prowl did let Jazz leave without voicing a word of protest the first couple of times ;3
